About

In this two-part course, students will experience what life is like as a polar bear scientist and virtually trek along four sea ice ecoregions. We will study how the geography of the Arctic Circle relates to polar bear populations while analyzing cutting edge technologies that allow scientists to track and study polar bears in real time. Students can expect to gain an awareness of polar bear anatomy, behavior, and adaptations. We will also discuss the crucial role sea ice plays as vital habitat and analyze how trends in temperature changes are impacting the conservation of these marine predators. The class structure will be a blend of slides, engaging discussions, and biofacts (polar bear skull and claw)! Students will learn the geography of the Arctic Circle, as well as the scientific classification, anatomy, behavior, and adaptations of polar bears. Scientific methodologies, research, and conservation technologies will also be taught along with climate change trends. Students should be prepared to participate in class discussions and will be expected to critically evaluate information. Age Range: 11-15 Maximum Capacity: 12 Students (two-part series) Class Schedule: July 28th @ 10 AM
